The “Balloon” variety of the Red Eye Tetra has a unique body shape, typically shorter and rounder compared to the normal Four-lined Tetra. They exhibit a plump, rounded body shape, as opposed to the traditional slender one. The most distinctive feature of the Red Eye Tetra is their bright red eyes.

Balloon Red Eye Tetras can coexist with other non-aggressive freshwater fish. They are schooling fish, so it’s best to keep them in small groups (at least 6 or more) to reduce stress and exhibit their most natural behaviors.

An aquarium suitable for them should provide enough swimming space and vegetation to offer cover and a sense of security. Remember to provide them with proper filtration and regular water changes to maintain water quality.
